Arts & Culture

Whether it’s fine art galleries, live music, museums or the County Fair, the cultural life of Gila County’s communities is surprisingly rich and varied. Globe’s Cobre Valley Center for the Arts is a hub, located in the center of Globe’s historic district in the 1906 Court House. Its galleries feature the work of local fine artists and craftspeople, including work by Tim Harmon and Frank Balaam. The center also houses a community theater and offers art and music classes.

Neighboring Miami is known for its arts scene and the annual Miami Loco arts festival, while the San Carlos Apache Reservation is home to world-class Native artists such as painter Carrie Curley and skateboard artist Douglas Miles. Payson’s offerings range from an array of fine art galleries catering to every taste, to the annual Old Time Fiddlin’ State Championships. This is just a sampling of Gila County’s cultural world.
